I'm thinking about owning fewer cards but liking every page more. Is that a reasonable goal?

Very reasonable. I'd identify the cards you'd deliberately choose again, then review the rest without rushing to sell. A smaller collection can be easier to store, understand, and enjoy. Reducing quantity isn't a downgrade if it gives more attention to the reasons you started collecting.
