I'd encourage corrections that help the actual decision, delivered kindly and with an explanation. Not every casual abbreviation needs a public interruption. If someone is making newcomers uncomfortable, talk to them privately. A group can care about accuracy while still remembering how much vocabulary it asks people to learn.
