Why Do Reprints Matter?

@ReprintRookie asks

people keep freaking out about a reprint. Does that mean the cards everyone bought are worthless now?

Jeff answers

No. A reprint means more product becomes available, which can ease shortages and put pressure on prices. The effect depends on how much arrives and how much people still want it. It doesn't erase a card's appeal or guarantee a crash. I try to leave room for more supply when deciding what to pay, especially when the current price depends on nobody being able to find packs.
